Why We Ditched GoDaddy (and What Moms Should Know About DNS, Hosting, and Financial Control in 2025)

At The AI Mom Lab, I'm all about using smart tech to make life easier and more financially empowered — and that includes how we build and host our websites.

This year, I decided to ditch GoDaddy’s default DNS setup. Why? Because their limitations were slowing us down — and in some cases, costing us money and stability. If you're building digital income streams or launching a content site, here's why it's time to rethink how (and where) your domain lives.

🚫 The GoDaddy Problem

I registered our domain aimomlab.com through GoDaddy, thinking it would be a straightforward experience. But when tried to connect it to our Google Blogger site, I hit wall after wall:

  • They only allowed 1 A record (Blogger needs 4 for stability)
  • They tried to upsell us on Premium DNS ($50/year)
  • The site broke every time we tried to configure it correctly
  • Support gave conflicting advice about “firewalls” and “misrouting”

When you're running a content brand or a faceless YouTube/blog channel, downtime = lost credibility and lost revenue. That’s a no-go.

✅ The Cloudflare Solution (And Why It’s Free + Better)

I then switched to Cloudflare — a free DNS manager and global traffic optimizer. Within 30 minutes, we:

  • Set up all 4 A records required by Blogger
  • Added a CNAME for www → ghs.google.com
  • Activated HTTPS without errors or manual certificates
  • Enabled site-wide DNS-level security (for free)

Cloudflare doesn’t host your website — Blogger still does that. But it makes sure the traffic gets to the right place, fast and reliably. It’s like having a super-efficient digital assistant at the front door of your site.

💸 Financial Lessons from DNS Drama

For moms (or anyone) building digital income streams, these hidden tech decisions have financial implications:

  • 💰 Don't pay for what you don’t need. You don’t need $59/year Premium DNS to point a domain.
  • Time is money. Every hour spent troubleshooting is time not spent creating content or building passive income.
  • 🔐 Security matters. Cloudflare’s free firewall and SSL protect your site and your reputation.

And most importantly — don’t blindly follow tech support. Read, research, and own your stack. You don’t need to be an engineer to do this — just a determined mom with a mission 💪.

👩‍💻 What We Recommend Instead

If you’re starting a site in 2025 — blog, YouTube brand, or digital storefront — here's the stack I recommend:

  • 📌 Domain: Buy from GoDaddy or Google Domains
  • 📡 DNS: Immediately connect to Cloudflare (free)
  • 🧠 Hosting: Use Blogger (free), or Cloudways / Hostinger if you're running WordPress

🧠 Final Thoughts

At The AI Mom Lab, it's about performance as much as efficiency. We’re builders, creators, and digital CEOs. And that means choosing tools that give us control — not confusion.

So yes, long the ditched GoDaddy’s DNS. And in doing so, I saved money, reduced downtime, and leveled up my tech stack. You can too.

5 Surprisingly Fun Ways I Use AI to Teach My 4th Grader About Money

5 Surprisingly Fun Ways I Use AI to Teach My 4th Grader About Money Teaching kids about money doesn’t have to be boring — especially when you’ve got AI on your side. As a tech-loving mom raising a curious 9-year-old, I’ve discovered some amazing AI tools that make financial education fun, visual, and surprisingly effective. 1. We Use ChatGPT to Create “Spend or Save” Scenarios I’ll ask ChatGPT to create short, age-appropriate stories like: “Jake has $10. He can buy a toy now, or wait a week and get two. What should he do?” We read them together and talk through the choices. It teaches delayed gratification — the heart of smart money habits. 2. We Built a Custom Money Game in Scratch (with AI Help) We used AI (like Google’s Bard or ChatGPT) to help us brainstorm and debug a simple game in Scratch . It simulates earning, saving, and spending in a virtual lemonade stand. My 4th grader loves “running her own business.” 3. We Use Text-to-Image AI to Create Visual Goals We use t...
